Continued from "Our Family" - The mission of Club 25 was to help those in need, especially needy students. In addition, Dot prepared many fish and chicken dinners to help raise funds for the church expansion and other projects. Dot operated and managed the family business known as Jones & Brown Dry Cleaners until her death in 1966. This business was started by her brother, Pal, and her husband, Madison. Dot enjoyed cooking, playing cards, and playing croquet with her family. Every year she looked forward to baking fruit cakes for her brothers and sisters at Christmastime. She was everyone’s favorite Aunt. She loved to chase and play games with her nephews, Frankie, Marshall and Buck, and her nieces Diane, Debbie, Wanda and Joan who came to visit almost every summer. This gave her great pleasure and delighted her nieces and nephews. One of her favorite card games to play with the children was Crazy Eights. When winning she could be seen sticking the 8th card to her forehead. Mickey said he knew how much she loved him and Barbara because she showed it every day. When they were in college, she always made their favorite food and desserts. Mickey’s was a burnt brown sugar cake. Little Mick was her pride and joy; he and Jethus were the only two grandchildren that she lived to see. She would keep little Mick while Betty and Mickey were away at college. Little Mick often tells the story of the time Grandma Dot was giving him a bath in the old house in the kitchen sink when he fell through the window. He still has a scar to show for this. Dot had one daughter-in-law, Betty, 9 grandchildren, James (Mickey), Daril, Anthony (Tony), Dorthea, Jaron, Terek, Jethus, Kenneth and Leon; 16 great- grandchildren, DJ, Brandon, SeTonya, Navina, Erica, Asia, Madison, Aleyah, Jayda, Jayce, Anna, Gabrielle, Shawn, Xavier, Isaac and Jacob; and 1 great, great-grandchild, Nasir King. Mama, Mama Dot, Grandma Dot, Aunt Dot or Dot, whatever you called her, was a fun loving, easy going person. She is loved and missed by everyone.
